On the day of the Birth of Mary, on September 8, Lopar locals organise the biggest fiesta on the island for their visitors. There is a traditional five-a-side football tournament, which has the reputation of being one of the strongest tournaments in the country. They also organize a boccie tournament, tug-of-war, and cook lamb and ox on a spit, as well as a rich selection of traditional fish and meat delicacies. In the evening, everybody moves to a large tent with live music and a rich programme, and the fiesta goes on until the dawn.
